Let’s build hope.

A NGO expert and vice chairman of the Green council group running for a second term in the Helsinki City Council.

Let’s Build Hope for the Future

We must offer young generations such stable living conditions that everyone dares to dream and make plans for the future. Whether it’s thinking about starting a family, owning a home, securing a permanent job, or changing careers – let’s make Helsinki a hometown that sustains and supports these dreams and plans.

Equal opportunities start with ensuring that even the youngest children receive support based on need, not wealth. The path from early education to higher education can be unique for each individual, yet still safe and motivating for all. Let’s increase access to free extracurricular activities. Everyone should have the opportunity to take a break and get help when needed. Let’s keep primary care visits free of charge and explore new ways to improve access to healthcare services.

Sustainable Lifestyle in a Global City

A global city should be full of opportunities, empowering people to work, study, engage in hobbies, and pursue their passions – regardless of their background. It should be possible to integrate into the city when moving in from anywhere in the world. Here, one can stay for a moment or build a lifetime. Let’s also recognize the new opportunities that many bring with them.

A lifestyle that reflects one’s own preferences should be possible to create anywhere in Helsinki. A car is not needed, and commuting is not exhausting when we build the city by placing schools, libraries, stores, and sports facilities within walking distance from home. No one should be left without a home. Let’s provide homes for all kinds of personal circumstances - from multiple-birth families to people living by themselves. Let’s keep housing prices affordable by increasing diverse housing production.

Let’s Fit Our Lifestyle to Nature’s Limits

Nature belongs here, even if no one visits it. It is part of our city and essential for life on earth. Instead of cutting down forests, let’s grow and preserve more of them. Let’s also preserve our parks and the Baltic Sea. Let’s ensure that everyone can see trees from their windows and access nearby nature on foot. When nature thrives, so do people.

We must take concrete actions towards a carbon-neutral Helsinki, such as shutting down coal power plants, and building railways and bike paths instead of parking lots. Let’s help housing companies transition to renewable energy heating solutions and carry out energy renovations in the city’s buildings. Let’s further increase the amount of vegetarian food and strengthen the circular economy, instead of a throwaway economy.
