I am a 32-year-old global citizen from Helsinki. I want everyone to have hope in their everyday lives. I want a sustainable life that reflects one’s own preferences. And I want our city to work within nature’s limits. That is why I am running for another term in the Helsinki City Council.
I am a Master of Science in Human Geography and graduated from the University of Helsinki. I work for a nonprofit organization that strives to improve equal access to hobbies for the local youth. My day-to-day life also consists of contributing to Helsinki's city politics.
I live in a two-bedroom city apartment with my partner and our 1-year-old twins. My hobbies include trying out different sports, testing new children’s playgrounds, cycling to work, knitting woolen socks and gardening on my balcony. I enjoy slow and warm summer days with a good book on my hands on the cliffs by the Baltic Sea.
My roles in the city politics of Helsinki
- Vice Chair of the Green group of Helsinki City Council 2024 —
- Member of the Culture and Leisure Committee & Leader of the Green group members of the committee 2023 —
- Chair of the Youth Section of the Culture and Leisure Committee 2021 — 2023
- Vice Member of the Sports Section 2017 — 2021
I also have experience of policy-making from the Student Union of the University of Helsinki, where I represented the Green Group for two terms, and from the boards of several organisations.
My achievements in the city politics of Helsinki
I am hugely motivated by the good decisions that I see being made for our future. During the current Council term, I have proposed the following initiatives:
- More shared cargo bikes in Helsinki
- Increasing resources for youth work in schools
- Increasing the number of youth workers
- Accelerating the planning of the new youth centre in Pasila
- Securing and publicising the free use of sports fields
- Increasing the budget for resident participation
- Increasing the number of independent sports facilities for children and young people
- Strengthening activities for young people in line with regional needs
- Permanent shade for playgrounds
- Implementing child impact assessment as part of city planning
I have also proposed a motion for a resolution to speed up the construction of recreational facilities for young people.
In the City Council, I have spoken on issues such as combating the climate crisis, reducing car traffic, the importance of affordable housing and the city budget. I have acted as our group's negotiator in budget negotiations, where we negotiated more money for issues such as tackling inequality, pay rises for the city's lowest paid sectors and climate-friendly solutions in transport, energy and nature conservation.
In the Culture and Leisure Committee, I have, among other things, taken the initiative to set aside more money in the city budget for energy investments in sports facilities, so that in the future, for example, swimming pools and ice rinks will be heated and cooled using more sustainable forms of energy. As the leader of our group, I organise our preliminary discussions and consult with the other political groups on all future decisions of the committee.
